Why everyone keeps coming back.

TORTAS ALEJANDRA is a must-visit gem nestled in the vibrant heart of Playa del Carmen’s Gonzalo Guerrero neighborhood, specializing in authentic Mexican tortas that deliver both bold flavor and generous portions. This casual fast-food spot doubles as a breakfast haven, serving up classic Mexican cuisine with a focus on tortas—Mexico’s beloved sandwich—crafted to perfection.

From the moment you approach TORTAS ALEJANDRA, don’t be fooled by its modest and unpretentious exterior. Inside, the tantalizing aroma of fresh, slow-cooked meats and toasty bread captivates your senses immediately. Their menu offers a simple yet deeply satisfying selection, featuring tortas priced at MX$120.00, specialties at MX$135.00, and refreshing beverages around MX$60.00, ensuring excellent value without compromising quality.

Popular dishes here include “The Cubano,” praised for its perfect balance of smoky ham, melted cheese, and tangy pickles pressed into a crispy bun—truly a standout that keeps customers coming back for more. Every torta is made fresh as you wait, guaranteeing a hot, crispy, and savory bite every time. The preparation process emphasizes authenticity, which local patrons and visitors alike have lauded.

Although TORTAS ALEJANDRA is primarily a takeout destination—with only three small tables available—the warmth of its food more than compensates for the limited seating. Travelers and expats often recommend ordering ahead since the place gets busy quickly due to its stellar reputation. Waiting 20 to 30 minutes is common, but as many reviewers enthusiastically agree, the delicious payoff is absolutely worth the short wait.

The atmosphere is informal and bustling, embodying the lively spirit of Playa del Carmen’s street food culture. Even though it can get quite warm inside, the kitchen’s energy and the friendliness of the staff create an inviting vibe. Whether you’re grabbing a quick breakfast or a satisfying lunch, TORTAS ALEJANDRA offers a genuine taste of Mexican comfort food that feels both nostalgic and excitingly fresh.

With heartfelt praise from visitors like ‘Ex-Pat,’ who declares it the best tortas spot in Playa del Carmen, and Cindy Crawford’s glowing recommendation of its authenticity, TORTAS ALEJANDRA stands out as a true local favorite. For anyone seeking an unforgettable Mexican culinary experience in a casual, down-to-earth setting, this torta haven is an essential stop on your Playa del Carmen food journey.

Dear visitors and ex-pat's don't be put off by the appearance! Best tortas that we've found so far in PdC. Be patient, they do a lot of call-in/take-out orders.

The best example of a Mexican torteria. Very well served portions, and prepared while you wait. Best for takeout since there are only 3 tables and it is super hot inside.

I ate quite a few fancy meals while on vacation in this area, yet the tortas I got at this place were the best thing I had the whole time. If you're contemplating getting one or two more sandwiches when ordering: DO IT!! life's short
